Most of us are now aware of the countless benefits that hemp plants can bring not only to the environment but also to the human body. This is possible thanks to certain cannabinoids, which contain active ingredients capable of stimulating our endocannabinoid system. In this article we will deal with CBD and CBG, two cannabinoids completely devoid of psychoactive properties and formidable in terms of benefits and therapeutic potential. Specifically we will see:
- What is CBD
- What is CBG
- Differences
What is CBD
CBD, or cannabidiol , is one of the numerous cannabinoids produced by the trichomes present on the flowers of cannabis plants. It was discovered around the 1940s and then studied in depth by the scientific communities starting from the 1980s , years in which the idea of the extent it could have had began to take root in the minds of most cannabis researchers. medical cannabis little by little.
CBD is free of any psychoactive effects and interacts beautifully with our endocannabinoid system.
We can hypothesize that it was precisely the beneficial effects that emerged from scientific research on CBD that paved the way for the legalization of light cannabis.
Cannabidiol can bring the following benefits:
- It has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties
- can be used to combat chronic pain
- helps suppress nausea
- helps contain anxiety attacks and mood swings.
- it is an excellent ally against insomnia
- It has antioxidant properties
- It has been shown to have extraordinary antiepileptic effects. as demonstrated by recent studies by Raphael Mechoulam, who surprises and involves us with his book entitled “The future is hemp green.
Today, products based on this active ingredient are absolutely legal.
CBD can be sold legally, whether in the form of edibles , so things to eat such as biscuits or dragees . In the form of an extract, for example CBD oil , which is becoming increasingly popular in the treatment of certain pathologies . Or, in a certain percentage, inside an e-liquid or even in its natural form, the one we often prefer: CBG flowers .
The important thing is that the THC content is less than 0.2% as required by current law.
The legalization of light cannabis has generated more than four hundred thousand jobs , these are growers who have decided to experiment by creating new varieties of cannabis with a high content of CBD, an active ingredient that can be successfully used to help the human body restore a psychophysical balance.
What is CBG
Although we most often hear about THC and CBD , there are other cannabinoids in a hemp plant. One of these is CBG , which is much more than just another cannabinoid found in a hemp plant.
It is a bit like the progenitor of all the other cannabinoids, the first to be produced by cannabis plants as well as the one that is synthesized into other active ingredients such as THC and CBD during photosynthesis.
Totally free of the effects of THC and any psychoactive effect exactly like CBD, cannabigerol is further proof that cannabis plants always and only give us beautiful things. Recent studies have shown that it can have important benefits on the human body:
- stimulates appetite and can be used in the treatment of some eating disorders
- has important antibiotic effects
- can combat neurodegenerative diseases
- it can decrease intraocular pressure and therefore be effective against glaucoma
- It has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties
- has been evaluated for antitumor efficacy against melanoma cells in the skin
- It has antioxidant properties
- helps suppress nausea
Its anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor properties have attracted the attention of the scientific community which sees CBG as a possible candidate for the development of new drugs to treat certain pathological conditions.
There are various CBG-based products on the market, such as easily vaporizable e-liquids or oils to be diluted in water or to be placed under the tongue and finally in the form of crystals to be vaporized or used in cooking.
Less likely to find good CBG buds . It must be considered that this is a relatively recent discovery and both scientific research and testing of new hybrids of CBG cannabis strains are progressing... but not so quickly.
Surely in the near future we will see new experiments, let's not forget that CBG is the mother cell of the other cannabinoids. It can be used to create new cannabis varieties with a high concentration of active ingredients at the discretion of the grower.
Certainly an all-CBG and CBD strain could be a revelation on a therapeutic level. In the meantime, I recommend that when you buy CBG-based products, always make sure you choose a variety of cannabis that is certified and possibly grown organically and without pesticides.
Differences
As you may have noticed from the previous paragraphs, there are many similarities between cannabidiol or CBD and cannabigerol or CBG , especially from the point of view of the beneficial effects on the human body and possible therapeutic uses.
In fact, apart from some specificities, the two active ingredients seem to share most of the therapeutic properties . Both are devoid of the psychoactive properties of THC and appear to be free of side effects.
Both act positively on our endocannabinoid system and both are the subject of interest by various scientific communities. It is possible to find products based on both active ingredients, ranging from oils to crystals, from edibles to cosmetics, from CBD flowers to CBG buds, which are even a little more difficult to find.
Even from an appearance point of view, it is not very easy to distinguish between CBD flowers and CBG buds, also because as we well know , appearance and color shades depend on the specific variety of cannabis.
CBG buds, however, should be full and compact , just like CBD flowers and all other self-respecting buds, provided they are well grown and processed. From a flavor point of view, the same thing applies, the aroma will depend on the terpenes of that specific variety. However, CBG has a sweetly “hempy” aftertaste.
One of the substantial differences between these two active ingredients is that one generates the other through synthesis.
In fact, as we have seen, cannabigerol is somewhat of the parent of other cannabinoids and therefore also of CBD. Precisely because of synthesis , a mature hemp plant has a very low quantity of CBG while it is very rich in CBD, which together with THC is the cannabinoid present in the greatest quantity in the trichomes of the flowers of cannabis plants.
Perhaps scientific research will reveal further differences, for now it seems to us that these are the most relevant ones. The synergy of these two active ingredients seems desirable to create a variety of enhanced therapeutic cannabis or why not, different specific cannabis varieties for the treatment of certain pathologies.
In the meantime, we at Terre di Cannabis continue to work hard in our fields to maintain the high quality of our CBD flowers , grown naturally and organically, which we invite you to try if you are one of those who love enjoying the effects of quality cannabis without the effects of THC.
And soon a big and very welcome surprise: our first CBG flowers : stay tuned.
